One PDF up to 100 MB

This tool runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed locally and are never uploaded to a server. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.

How to split a PDF

Five steps to exactly the pages you need.

  1. Add your PDF

Drop one PDF onto the zone or click “Browse files”. Files up to 100 MB are accepted.

  2. Choose a split mode

Pick “Every page”, “Custom ranges” or “Selected pages” — the options for your choice appear below.

  3. Configure the split

For ranges, type something like 1-3, 5, 8-10. For selected pages, tap the page numbers you want to keep.

  4. Split

Click “Split PDF” and let the progress bar finish.

  5. Download

A single result downloads directly; multiple results arrive together as a ZIP archive.

What this tool does

Splitting copies selected pages out of a PDF into new, smaller documents. The three modes cover the ways people actually need to divide a file: one PDF per page when a scanner produced a single giant file, custom ranges when you know the page numbers, and a hand-picked selection when only certain pages matter.

Like the merger, the splitter uses the pdf-lib library and copies pages losslessly. Text remains text, images keep their quality, and nothing about the extracted pages changes except which document they live in.

Everything runs locally in your browser, which matters for the files people most often split — bank statements, medical records, contracts and other documents you would not want to upload to a stranger’s server.

Key features

Three split modes

Every page separately, custom ranges like 1-3 and 7, or a hand-picked selection — one of them fits every job.

Lossless extraction

Pages are copied, not re-rendered, so the extracted files match the original quality exactly.

ZIP for multiple results

When your split produces more than one document, everything is packed into a single ZIP for one download.

Private by design

The file is read and written on your device by a self-hosted library — nothing is uploaded.

Instant feedback

Page counts and invalid range entries are caught before the split starts, not after.

Works on any device

Tap-friendly page chips and a responsive layout make splitting practical on a phone too.

Supported formats and options

Input: one PDF file up to 100 MB.

Output: one or more PDF files — delivered individually or as a ZIP when there are several.

  • Every page — one single-page PDF per page, packed as a ZIP.
  • Custom ranges — entries like 1-3, 5, 8-10, each becoming its own PDF.
  • Selected pages — any combination of pages combined into one new PDF.

Practical use cases

  • Extract one page — pull a single signed page or certificate out of a long document to send on its own.
  • Split scanner output — a scanner that saved everything into one file becomes tidy single-page documents.
  • Separate chapters or sections — ranges like 1-12, 13-40 turn one export into logical parts.
  • Remove confidential pages — extract only the pages a recipient should see instead of forwarding the whole file.
  • Share part of a report — hand-pick the relevant pages into one compact PDF.

Limitations and notes

  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened — remove the protection first, then split.
  • Pages are copied as they are: splitting cannot edit, rotate or redact content.
  • Bookmarks and outlines from the original document may not carry over into the split files.
  • Very large documents are processed in memory; desktop browsers handle the biggest files best.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write page ranges?

Use numbers and dashes separated by commas, for example 1-3, 5, 8-10. Each entry becomes its own PDF, and you get a ZIP when there is more than one.

Will splitting damage the PDF?

No. Pages are copied losslessly — text, images and quality are exactly as in the original.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

No. The browser cannot open encrypted PDFs without the password. Remove the protection first, then split.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Splitting happens locally in your browser with a self-hosted library.

What do I get when I split every page?

One single-page PDF per page of the original, named in order and delivered together inside a ZIP archive so it is a single download.

Can I extract just one page?

Yes. Choose Custom ranges and type the page number on its own (for example 5), or use Selected pages and tap just that page. You will get a one-page PDF.

Are bookmarks and hyperlinks preserved?

The visible content of each page — text, images, layout — is preserved exactly. Document-level extras such as the outline (bookmarks panel) may not be carried into the split files.

Can I rejoin the pieces later?

Yes. The Merge PDF tool combines any of the split files back together in whatever order you choose, again without any quality loss.
